letter 42

Bishop Mark Webb
324 University Avenue

Dear Bishop Webb:

I urge you to exercise justice and compassion for Pastor Steve Heiss. I do hope that he is not prosecuted for actions that justly offered the same rights and privileges granted to other members of our society.

As an individual who grew up in a part of the country that justified exclusion, I am opposed to any action purporting that the practice of disregarding the rights of others is an acceptable one. That practice was contrary to the life and teachings of the Jesus whom we claim as followers.

I believe that Pastor Heiss acted with courage and a true commitment to teachings that he considered just according to the Christ-like example of inclusiveness.

Please employ the vision and courage that our church needs to move into a future where there is a place for everyone regardless of their differences.

Thank you for your prayerful reflection on this issue as we strive to make our church whole.

Sincerely,

Virgia B. Phoenix
